CRaFTC engulfs the necessary Partners, creating the facilities and synergies for solving fundamental and industrial Rheology and Flow problems.
The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) research and academic staff is involved in more than 254 Projects with a total funding / contribution over than 38.35 million (m) Euro (including HORIZON2020 RIF and other projects). The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering (MEMSE) houses two Research Units (€4M - RIF), focusing mainly in the fields of materials, nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy, environment and mechanics, and in general applied technology, and has attracted more than €12M in research grants. The Bio-Rheology/Microfluidics Laboratory (BRML) of the Project Coordinator Dr. E. Kaliviotis (EK) serves the areas of Bio-Rheology, Fluid and Biofluid Mechanics and BioMicrofluidics, and Haemodynamics, with significant experience in Digital Signal Processing (DSP). The extensive experience in the aforementioned areas is reflected in the research output discussed below. Key Research Facilities, Infrastructure and Equipment in the BRML include microfluidic systems, microscopy, fast and conventional cameras, wet lab facilities commercial viscometer, aggregometer, cytometer, biosafety cabinets, microfluidic fabrication facilities, optical shearing systems, laser cutters, etc. CUT is also represented by the Thermodynamics and Transport Phenomena Laboratory (T2PL), headed by Prof. Pavlos Stephanou. A major theme of the research work undertaken at T2PL is the development of mathematical models for describing the dynamic and flow behavior of complex systems using novel theoretical approaches, with particular emphasis on the use of non-equilibrium thermodynamics, with a more recent interest in blood and drug-carrying particles in the blood.
Read More With around 7.000 students, 113 laboratories and 830 faculty and staff members, the UCY is a young and rapidly expanding university. There are 7 faculties, 22 departments and 16 research units / centres, covering a broad spectrum within the life, social, natural and engineering sciences. UCY is the biggest employer in Cyprus for young graduates and researchers and is considered the leading university and the most active research institution in Cyprus. UCY implemented a large number of research projects funded by the European Commission, the RIF and several public and private Research Organizations. UCY is currently participating in 348 projects. 153 are EU-funded projects under Horizon 2020, Erasmus+, Justice, Life, Cost Action, and Interreg. Within Horizon 2020 program, UCY ranks 1st in Cyprus with 136 research projects and with a total funding of over €64,4 million from January 2014, the start date of H2020 program until February 2021. UCY ranked 148th in securing funding among the nearly 40,000 organizations participating in the Program and 106th among all the academic institutions involved. Since 2017, UCY secured 4 Teaming in Excellence projects. The Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering have extensive experience in the implementation of projects relevant to computational rheology and their research infrastructure is sufficient for the proposed research.
Read More CYENS is the first Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Cyprus focusing on Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies, aiming to empower knowledge and technology transfer in the region. CYENS is supported by the European Commission, the Republic of Cyprus and its founding Partners: the Municipality of Nicosia, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPI), University College London, the UCY, the CUT and the Open University of Cyprus. Research at CYENS stems from three Research Pillars: Visual Sciences, Human Factors & Design, Communications and Artificial Intelligence. Nineteen multidisciplinary innovation-driven research groups (MRGs) accommodate more than 100 research staff of CYENS CoE. Recent projects include: MAI4CAREU: 887K CEF, SmartCyclo: 100K RIF, BE-HIVE: 50K CYENS project for developing smart beehives that monitor bees’ behaviour, population and well-being using sensing technologies, computer vision and machine learning. Poultry Farm Intelligence: 600K RIF. ANNFASS: 250K RIF.
